The Pipeline Information Tour visited Bornholm
Nord Stream informed about the project during the island’s Cultural Week with the theme ’New Energy’
Sept. 21, 2008 | Rønne | More than 400 Bornholmers as well as a number of interested tourists visited Nord Stream’s Pipeline Information Tour Bus during the Cultural Week on Bornholm. The mobile exhibition was designed to inform the public about the planned natural gas pipeline across the Baltic Sea. It parked in the heart of Rønne – the island’s main city.
From Tuesday to Saturday Nord Stream opened up the bus to the public between 11 and 20.30 CET. Nord Stream representatives and experts from several Danish insitutions were available for informal discussions and information exchange about the project. Each day different specialists were on site to answer questions on subjects that ranged from fishery and the environment to cultural heritage, to pipe laying and Nord Stream’s extensive survey of the Baltic Sea.
"We are glad to experience so much genuine interest in the project on Bornholm. Many of our visitors already seemed to know a lot about the pipeline they enjoyed discussing details of our project – facilitating a positive dialogue with their questions. And dialogue is exactly what the Pipeline Information Tour is all about," says Maud Amelie Hanitzsch, Project Manager at Nord Stream.
To demonstrate the everyday use of natural gas the famous Danish chef Nikolaj Kirk prepared end-of-summer delicacies on a gasfired barbecue for visitors on Friday and Saturday. With his winning personality and excellent cooking skills Nikolaj Kirk entertained around 200 enthusiastic guests each day at the barbecues that turned out to be a great success.
At a later stage the Pipeline Information Tour will also visit Germany, Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Russia in order to inform about the project in all countries with territorial waters and/or Exclusive Economic Zones through which the pipeline is planned to pass.
